She tied her hair back in a ponytail
Dropped to her knees
And loved me.
Not with grand declarations,
nor promises cast in the wind,
But with quiet hands
and patients eyes.
The evening settled around us,
Soft as a blanket of fading gold,
While the world beyond the window,
Carried on without notice.
She smiled,
And in that simple moment,
Every horror I carried
Seemed a little further away.
No music played,
No audience applauded
Yet it felt like the kind of scene
We spent a lifetime searching for -
Two souls,
Stripped of pretense
Finding a home
In each others presence.
